Tomato Diabolik: variety description, characteristics, reviews (photo)

Tomatoes

Surely, any experienced gardener can't imagine their garden without several tomato plants. Before finding a suitable variety that requires minimal care, you should familiarize yourself with the variety's characteristics and description, as well as reviews of yield and fruit shape. According to some experts, Diabolik tomatoes are the most popular and easy-to-grow.

This variety is a mid-season tomato with determinate clusters. Simply put, its growth stops when the first flowers appear on the bushes. To learn more about this tomato variety, we recommend reading this article.

Description of the variety

This variety was first discovered by the Japanese company Sakata. These tomatoes are suitable for growing not only outdoors but also in greenhouses. Depending on growing conditions, the height of the bush can vary from 1.2 m to 1.6 m. The leaves are medium-sized, and the fruits are arranged in clusters and ripen almost simultaneously.

The main characteristics of the variety include:

  • powerful and deciduous bushes;
  • complex inflorescences;
  • increased yield (more than 10 tomatoes per bush).

Diabolik tomatoes are shaped like elongated cream. They weigh approximately 150 g on average. When ripe, the fruits turn bright red and contain 3-4 seed chambers. To form a proper bush, experts recommend leaving no more than three stems; the rest are pruned. Ripening time is mid-season (100-110 days), so this variety of tomato can be grown in any region.

Care

It's important to remember that tomatoes don't like excessively wet soil, so watering should be done sparingly. It's also important to avoid getting water on the leaves, as this can cause late blight. A day after watering, you can loosen the soil around the seedlings and remove any weeds. The next watering should occur when the soil is sufficiently dry.

Now let's talk about feeding tomatoes.

It consists of several important stages:

  1. We fertilize the seedlings immediately after placing them in the soil.
  2. The second solution is used during the appearance of buds.
  3. The third time they feed when the ovaries appear.
  4. The fourth time we fertilize the seedlings 2 weeks before harvesting.

In addition, there are special solutions that can help you increase the bush's resistance to diseases and adverse conditions.

Advice! Many gardeners recommend using a solution of bird droppings for the first feeding.

Let's consider several effective fertilizer options for this tomato variety:

  1. Solution for blossom-end rot. To do this, you'll need 1 tablespoon of calcium nitrate, diluted in 10 liters of clean water. This solution should be used during the flowering period of the tomatoes. Use no more than 1 liter per plant.
  2. Solution with wood ash. This feeding method is best used during the period when the bushes are setting fruit. Take 2 liters of wood ash and 10 grams of boric acid. Then add the ingredients to clean water (10 liters). After all the ingredients are mixed, let the liquid sit for 24 hours.
  3. Mineral fertilizers. We use them when the fruit is ripening. For the solution, we'll need: 2 tablespoons of superphosphate, 1 tablespoon of potassium humate, and 10 liters of water.

Advantages

The main advantages of the variety include:

  • wide adaptation;
  • heat resistance;
  • high yield (up to 10 kg from one bush);
  • long shelf life and transportation of fruits;
  • strong immunity to many diseases.

Experienced gardeners note that the Diabolik tomato thrives equally well in both high and low temperatures. Furthermore, its main advantage is its resistance to various diseases, including septoria leaf spot, fusarium wilt, root knot nematode, and others.

Flaws

Despite its many advantages, this tomato variety has one drawback. Seedlings thrive in full sun, and even a little shade can significantly reduce yield. Therefore, experts recommend choosing a planting site more carefully.

Planting dates

Tomatoes don't tolerate frost well, so the optimal time for planting outdoors is mid- to late May (15th-25th). It's also important to follow a special diagram that indicates the correct placement of the plants in the garden. It's important to remember that tomatoes grow tall and large, so they should be planted 40 x 60 cm apart.

Reviews

Vasily, 65 years old, Krasnodar:

"One day, I got into a conversation with my neighbor at my dacha. We spent quite a while discussing different tomato varieties. He recommended I try the Diabolik variety. After familiarizing myself with its characteristics and carefully studying the descriptions, I finally decided to buy some seedlings. I planted the bushes in the ground at the end of May. The first ripe fruits appeared about two months after planting. I was very pleased that the tomatoes weren't sweet, so I really enjoyed this variety."

Marina, 50 years old, Armavir:

"Last year, I planted a few bushes as a trial. The results exceeded all my expectations – every single seed germinated. There were no problems with the seedlings either. The bushes were quite tall and produced numerous ovaries. But since I planted them very late, not all of them ripened in time. Despite this, I harvested about 10 large, plum-sized tomatoes from each cluster. I was very pleased that all the fruits had a smooth, even surface. Furthermore, the bushes survived the sudden temperature changes at the end of August without any problems. And if not for the approaching frosts, I could have been harvesting tomatoes before mid-autumn. Of course, I didn't really like the taste of the fresh tomatoes. But the preserves turned out excellent."

Sergey, 55 years old, Voronezh:

Our family plants tomatoes to enjoy their flavor all year round. Each season, I try to select the tastiest tomato varieties, but as it turns out, they don't always produce a bountiful harvest. When I heard positive reviews about Diabolik, I decided to give it a try. And I haven't regretted it for a second. Indeed, all the characteristics were justified, and the fruits were successfully used in home canning.
