Characteristics and description of the tomato "Wild Tiger"

Tomatoes

The "Wild Tiger" tomato variety was developed by American breeders. It boasts an attractive appearance.

Description of the Wild Tiger variety

Tomatoes are indeterminate. Harvesting of ripe fruits begins 110-120 days after emergence. Stems grow up to 1.8 m. Bushes are sparsely foliated. The leaves are large and dark green.

The fruits are small, weighing between 60 and 90 grams. They are a rich red with a brown tint, with stripes across the entire surface. As they ripen, the stripes change from light green to yellow. The flavor is good and the fruits are not sour. The shape of the fruit is plum-shaped. The flesh is juicy. The tomato contains very few seeds. There are many chambers inside, but they are small.

One cluster produces 3-6 tomatoes. A single tall plant, 1.5 meters tall, can produce up to 10 clusters. This yield per bush is 3-4 kg. They are grown outdoors in moderate climates; indoor cultivation is suitable for relatively harsh climates. Plant no more than four plants per square meter. Their primary uses are fresh consumption and the preparation of various pickles.

Conditions for growing and caring for tomatoes

Tall tomatoes require more care than determinate tomatoes. Key care recommendations for indeterminate tomatoes:

  1. Seed preparation. Seeds purchased from seed stores are most often treated, so if they are slightly discolored, they don't require additional treatment. If the seeds are otherwise plain, soaking them in a growth stimulant before planting is recommended. A special seed soaking solution is "Baktofit." The recommended dosage is 1 g per 500 ml.
  2. Planting seeds. The soil should be warm. Plant at a depth of 1-2 cm. Water the seeds with warm water.
  3. Growing seedlings. The greenhouse temperature should be maintained at 25°C for the first few weeks, then gradually lowered to allow the plants to acclimate to the lower temperature. It's best to water the seedlings daily, but moderately; avoid overwatering. Seedlings can be fertilized with the following solution: dissolve 20g of ammonium sulfate, 30g of superphosphate, and 5g of potassium chloride in 10 liters of water. Water the plants at the roots, avoiding contact with the leaves.
  4. Planting in open ground and care. Add 1 kg of humus, a tablespoon of superphosphate, and wood ash to the prepared holes. It is recommended to plant tall plants at a 45-degree angle. During planting, water each bush thoroughly, using 10 liters of water. As the plant grows, tie it to the installed support, remove excess shoots, loosen the soil, and mulch.
  5. Fertilizer. As the plant grows, apply nitrogen fertilizer at a rate of 30-35 grams per square meter. During budding, apply potassium and phosphorus fertilizer at a rate of 30-40 grams per square meter.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The advantages of tomato are:

  • climate resistance;
  • resistance to major diseases;
  • attractive appearance of fruits;
  • early ripening of tomatoes;
  • used in various areas of cooking.

Disadvantages of the plant:

  • care takes a lot of time;
  • the harvest is average.

Reviews:

Oksana Romanovna:

This was my first time growing the "Wild Tiger" tomato. The fruits are small, perfect for pickling in jars. I spent a lot of time caring for the plant. I fed the tomatoes twice: once while they were still in the greenhouse, and again when the fruit began to set. The yield was average. Each cluster produced 3-4 tomatoes. The flavor was pleasant.

Andrey Viktorovich:

A tomato should be productive—that's my subjective opinion. The "Wild Tiger" variety produces well, but the fruits are small. I'd rate it as a medium-yielding variety. I wouldn't say it was covered in tomatoes, so I'd give it an average rating. The tomato's color is pleasant, the flavor is fresh, and the flesh is juicy.
