Characteristics and description of the tomato "Ditmar"

Tomatoes

The Ditmar tomato, suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation, is a new addition to the German collection. It forms a cluster bearing up to seven red tomatoes, each weighing at least 100 grams. This early-ripening, all-purpose tomato boasts excellent flavor.

It can be grown throughout the Russian Federation. Gardeners love tomatoes because they begin bearing fruit 90 days after germination. The bushes are laden with clusters of sweet, juicy fruits with a slightly tart flavor that ripen rapidly.

What is attractive about this variety?

Ditmar is a semi-determinate plant. This is a relatively rare occurrence among tomatoes, but it is especially prized by vegetable growers because it combines the best properties of determinate and indeterminate tomatoes:

  1. The bush has a height of about 1.5 m.
  2. It has a long fruiting period.
  3. Forms new ovaries on the stepsons.
  4. Not susceptible to many fungal and bacterial diseases.

The main advantage of this variety is its early fruiting, which continues until the end of August. The Ditmar variety produces red tomatoes with pink flesh. These tomatoes are suitable for salads, juices, and pickling.

The harvest is stored for about two weeks. Tomatoes are transported in bunches. Fruits picked at technical ripeness quickly turn red and do not burst during transport.

One bush yields up to 7 kg per season. The photos below demonstrate all the advantages of the Ditmar variety.

How to grow this variety

Growing the Ditmar tomato variety doesn't require any special care. Seed management is the same as for other tomato varieties. Seeds are sown in pots 55 days before planting in their permanent location. Seedlings are fed with a urea solution and potassium fertilizer, watered, and the soil is loosened.

The seedlings are transplanted indoors when the greenhouse temperature reaches 20°C. Three plants are planted per square meter. Indoors, the bush is formed into three stems to ensure each plant has access to oxygen and light.

In open ground, the Ditmar variety's lateral shoots are often left to encourage fruit set. This is acceptable if the summer is long and dry, and pathogenic microflora cannot damage the crop. When trained this way, the bush lies flat on the ground and spreads across the garden bed.

If the summer is wet, tomatoes are tied up during cultivation. When the top of the plant begins to overhang and topple over the support, the side shoots are pinched. This reduces the number of ovaries but allows for larger tomatoes.

What reviews do vegetable growers leave?

Reviews of the variety are positive. Ditmar produces medium-sized fruits, typical of early varieties. It is often planted in garden plots to produce an early tomato harvest.

Maria, Irkutsk Oblast: Our tomato season begins with the Ditmar variety. By mid-July, it's laden with clusters of delicious fruit. To ensure the plants produce a good fruit set, we treat the bushes with "Zavyaz."

Semyon, Southern Urals: We plant Ditmar tomatoes indoors. Before planting, we treat the seeds with a potassium permanganate solution. When we plant tomatoes in the greenhouse, we dip the roots in Kornevin powder. This accelerates root growth and makes the plant's stems stronger. The result is a bountiful harvest. We got a lot of tomatoes from five plants. The harvested fruit was enough for salads and hot dishes.

Ivan, Moscow Region: Ditmar tomato bushes are growing in a greenhouse. These tomatoes produce numerous fruits per vine. We remove side shoots, tie the bush to a high support, and tie it several times. This helps us care for the bushes and harvest the bunches of tomatoes in a timely manner.
