Characteristics and description of the tomato "Doctor Green Frosted"

Tomatoes

Green Doctors Frosted tomatoes are exclusive and unusual cherry tomatoes that stand out from other green tomatoes not only for their taste and the unusual appearance of their emerald-green fruit, but also for their numerous advantages and benefits, which we'll share in our article.

Characteristics of the variety

These tomatoes are a mid-early, cluster-bearing, indeterminate, tall cherry variety. The average plant height ranges from 1.8 to 2.3 meters, but tomatoes reaching 3 meters are quite common. The bushes are not very large and grow more vertically. The leaves are small and dark green. To achieve a good harvest, gardeners recommend growing Doctor Green Frosted tomatoes in 2-3 stems. Seedlings need to be regularly pinched and tied to a trellis. They are ideal for growing both in open ground and under a plastic cover.

Description of fruits

The berries are small and oval-shaped. The average weight of a single tomato is 20-30 g. When ripe, the tomatoes turn emerald green with a matte finish. The taste is intensely sweet with a slight nutmeg flavor. The skin is dense, smooth, and flawless. The flesh is aromatic and slightly creamy. Inside the tomato are two seed chambers containing a fair number of malachite seeds. The fruits ripen almost simultaneously. A single cluster produces approximately 7-10 small cherry tomatoes. The only drawback of these tomatoes is that it can be difficult to determine the ripeness of the berries at first glance.

Advice!To accurately determine whether a Dr. Green Frosted tomato is ripe, gently squeeze it without picking it from the vine. If the berries feel soft, the tomatoes are ripe and ready to eat.

Agricultural technology

Seeds should be sown 2-2.5 months before the intended transplanting date. It is recommended to plant 2 to 4 plants per square meter. However, planting too densely will hinder care and berry ripening. Seedlings are placed in small holes no larger than 6 cm in diameter and up to 5 cm deep. Cover with soil and water generously with warm water. The topsoil is mulched (sawdust or straw) to prevent rapid evaporation and prevent the topsoil from becoming hard.

Advantages:

  •        good yield compared to other cherry tomatoes;
  •        unusual taste that is difficult to confuse with other tomatoes;
  •        can be stored for a long time in special containers;
  •        withstand long-term transportation;
  •        have strong immunity to the most common diseases.

Caring for Dr. Green Frosted Tomato Seedlings

During the side-sonning period, shoots are removed completely. Many advise leaving stumps of 2-4 cm, but this is incorrect, as an untouched or broken shoot can lead to infectious diseases in tomatoes. It's best to side-son tomatoes early in the morning and only in dry weather to allow the wound to heal quickly. Three to four prunings are performed per season.

Important!Growing Dr. Green Frosted tomatoes without tying them to a trellis or other support can significantly reduce the yield and lead to widespread infection of the berries by infectious and dangerous diseases.

Tomatoes need to be watered regularly, but not too much. Since tomatoes develop a strong root system, overwatering the soil will almost certainly result in late blight. To make watering easier, plant the tomato seedlings in furrows and water them once every seven days.

The most common tomato diseases

Proper agricultural practices not only guarantee a good harvest but also prevent many infectious and fungal diseases. Doctor Green Frosted tomatoes have good immunity, but are susceptible to the following diseases:

  •     Curling of the upper foliage. This symptom in tomatoes is most often associated with a calcium deficiency. To solve this problem, experienced gardeners recommend adding calcium soda as an additional fertilizer. Add 20 grams of the solution to 10 liters of warm water, mix thoroughly, and let the solution sit for 4-6 hours. Pour 250 ml of the prepared mixture under each plant, alternating with regular watering.
  •     Untimely wilting and yellowing of leaves. This is a fairly common physiological process in many tomato varieties. Leaves should be removed immediately to improve the flow of fresh air to the fruit and reduce the risk of late blight.
  •     Blossom-end rot is the appearance of brownish-brown spots on the first tomatoes to appear. It's caused by a lack of calcium. I treat this problem in the same way as leaf curl.
  •     Phytophthora is the most common disease that appears during the fruit growth stage. Characteristic signs include the appearance of brown spots on the leaves, which rapidly increase in number. The main cause of the disease is excessive soil moisture. Affected leaves are cut off, and healthy leaves are treated with a copper oxychloride solution.

  •     If seedlings are deficient in magnesium, white spots will form on the leaves between the membranes, especially on the lower stems. When these symptoms appear, urgently apply additional magnesium sulfate. Use 10 grams of magnesium sulfate per 10 liters of water. Mix all ingredients and let steep for 2-4 hours. Water the seedlings with the resulting mixture once or twice every seven days.
Important!When using magnesium sulfate, you should remove fertilizers: calcium sulfate and potassium sulfate.
  •     Brown berry spot is a fungal infection characterized by the appearance of yellowish-whitish spots on tomatoes. If left untreated, the affected spots enlarge and become dark brown with a white coating. Infection most often occurs from diseased foliage or contaminated soil. Preventative measures include applying a copper chloride solution and ventilation.

The Doctor Green Frosted tomato is a hybrid variety containing a high amount of chlorophyll, which can increase hemoglobin levels in the blood, promote wound healing, and strengthen the human immune system. Furthermore, green tomatoes do not contain the "red pigment" that can cause allergic reactions to tomatoes. Therefore, even allergy sufferers can eat tomatoes without any risk to their health.

Reviews:

Yana, 43 years old, Ufa

The Dr. Green Frosted tomato is the sweetest cherry tomato I've ever grown. It tastes like grapes, but leaves a pleasant muscat aftertaste. My tomatoes grew small because I didn't have time to prune the seedlings. Although the fruits are small, I had a lot of them. I'll keep growing them.

The Dr. Green Frosted tomato is truly a very sweet and fleshy variety. The bushes grew almost 2.5 meters. I regularly tied and pinched the plants. The average fruit weight was no more than 30 grams. The lower clusters had simple inflorescences, while the upper ones had complex inflorescences. I used it only for salads.

I only managed to buy Doctor Green Frosted tomato seeds online, and it took me a while. I grew the tomatoes in a greenhouse. The bushes grew almost to the ceiling, with sparse foliage. The berries were round, a rich green with a matte sheen. Although they weighed about 15 grams, there were a lot of them in the beds. This year I'm planning to buy more plants to try making green cherry tomatoes into sauce or tomato paste.
