Even children will love them.Tomatoes are a favorite crop for many gardeners. With so many varieties available, choosing just one can be difficult. Among the new varieties, the Duo tomato is a popular choice. Many gardeners rank it among the others.

Characteristics of the variety

The Duo tomato is a mid-early variety. The bushes are tall, reaching 2 meters. The fruits are small, only 4 cm in diameter, weighing 60 grams. The tomatoes have an unusual coloring, resembling a watermelon in appearance. This variety is considered high-yielding, with up to 25 fruits per cluster. Harvesting can begin 111 days after germination.

Please note! Due to the high sugar content, tomatoes have a rich, sweet taste.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages of the Duo variety are the following:

  • excellent taste of fruits;
  • versatility of application;
  • possibility of growing in open and protected ground;
  • disease resistance;
  • the fruits have a marketable appearance.

Among the disadvantages, the following can be noted: the bushes are tall and require tying.

Growing seedlings

First, you need to decide on the sowing time. This can vary depending on the expected time for planting the seedlings. If you plan to plant seedlings in May, you can begin sowing as early as early March.

Important! Don't rush planting seeds. It's best to stick to the established timeframe. Otherwise, the seedlings will become leggy and weak.

Before planting, a number of preparatory steps must be taken. This includes preparing the soil, containers, and seeds. Once everything is ready, you can begin sowing.

The seeds should be planted no more than 2 cm deep. Cover the seedlings with soil, cover with plastic wrap, and store in a warm place. As soon as the first shoots appear, remove the plastic wrap and move the containers to a well-lit windowsill.

To ensure healthy seedlings, they need proper care. The basic care steps are as follows:

  1. Watering. The soil should be moist. However, avoid overwatering the seedlings. This can lead to root rot.
  2. Ventilation. Seedlings need to be ventilated regularly.
  3. Temperature. Tomatoes prefer to grow at temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius.
  4. Light. It's important to ensure good lighting. Plants require at least 12 hours of daylight. If necessary, use additional light sources.
  5. Pricking out. As soon as the first three leaves appear, the plants need to be picked out.
  6. Hardening off. Before planting outdoors, hardening off the seedlings is necessary. This procedure will allow the seedlings to acclimate to outdoor conditions.

Planting seedlings in the ground

First, you need to prepare the site. Tomatoes prefer a sunny spot. Next, dig the soil, remove weeds, add fertilizer, and make holes. Carefully plant the seedlings into the prepared holes.

To get a good harvest, plants need proper care. The basic care procedures are as follows:

  1. Watering. It's best to water the plants with warm water, morning or evening. Watering should be regular but infrequent. Several times a week is sufficient.
  2. Loosening and weeding. Tomatoes don't tolerate weeds well, so weeds should be removed promptly.
  3. Hilling. The first procedure is carried out 10 days after planting the seedlings. The procedure should be repeated after 20 days.
  4. Fertilizing. Fertilizing is required twice during the summer season.

Disease resistance

The Duo tomato is resistant to many diseases. Crops are not susceptible to fusarium, late blight, or cladosporiosis. However, preventative measures should not be forgotten.
