Characteristics and description of the tomato "Father Rain"

Tomatoes

A bright, rich flavor, high yields, and a unique heart-shaped form—all these qualities are combined in the Vater Rhein tomato. This German tomato variety is renowned for its high yields and large fruits, sometimes reaching 1 kilogram.

Characteristics and description of the variety

The mid-season tomato variety Vater Rain is recommended for greenhouse cultivation. The bushes reach a height of 1.5 meters, with medium foliage.

Each tomato weighs approximately 450-600 grams. It is heart-shaped with a small, pointed tip at the top. When ripe, the tomatoes turn bright red. The flesh is juicy, fleshy, and virtually seedless, with a sweet, tart flavor.

The fruit ripens in 95-105 days. When trained into 2-3 stems, one bush yields approximately 4-6 kg of tomatoes, and one square meter yields 15-20 kg of tomatoes.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Vater Rain tomatoes offer a wonderful combination of flavor, original shape, and productivity, and they have many advantages:

  • excellent taste;
  • attractive appearance;
  • high yield;
  • Tomatoes are versatile in use;
  • fleshy seedless pulp.

Disadvantages of the variety:

  • plants cannot tolerate cold;
  • the bushes require constant garter;
  • Tomatoes can only be grown in greenhouse conditions.

Purpose of the variety

Tomatoes are used in salads, eaten fresh, and are suitable for making ketchup, sauces, and purees. Smaller tomatoes can be preserved for the winter.

Features of cultivation

General-purpose potting soil can be purchased at the store. This mixture is easy to prepare at home: take nutritious soil, add sand, and peat additives (2:1:1). Before planting, soak the seeds in a potassium permanganate solution to prevent diseases.

At the end of February, plant the seeds in containers, cover with a layer of soil, and water. You can cover the containers with plastic wrap for a few days to speed up germination. It's best to move the containers to a warm, sunny location.

After 8-10 days of sowing, sprouts will appear. The plastic wrap is removed, and the seedlings are moved to a cool room (14-16 degrees Celsius) to harden them off. After a week, the temperature is gradually raised until it reaches 22-24 degrees Celsius. Water the soil as needed during seedling growth; excess moisture can cause root rot.

Transplant the seedlings into individual containers once they have grown stronger and sprouted a few leaves. Seedlings require good light; if this is insufficient, fluorescent lamps can be added. Seedlings should receive at least 16 hours of daylight per day.

The greenhouse is best located in the southern or southwestern part of the garden. After 55-65 days, the seedlings are transferred to the garden. The soil for planting should be prepared in advance, organic and mineral fertilizers should be added, and then the area should be dug. The seedlings are planted in the holes, the soil compacted, and watered. The bushes are planted at a distance of 30 cm by 40 cm. Supports should be installed near the bushes for tying. After a couple of weeks, the plants are given their first staking. No more than three plants should be planted per square meter.

Caring for tomatoes

Basic requirements for plant care:

  • hilling of the soil is carried out 2-3 times per season;
  • the bushes are quite tall, so every 2-3 weeks as they grow, the bushes are tied up;
  • timely watering: pour a liter of water under one bush, it is better to water in the evening, when the sun has already set;
  • weeds need to be removed regularly;
  • Fertilize tomatoes three times during the summer, adding organic matter 15 days after planting; you can mix manure with superphosphate; add mineral supplements every two weeks thereafter.

Diseases and pests

If you allow high humidity in the greenhouse, a number of diseases may occur:

  • septoria;
  • late blight;
  • blossom-end rot;
  • macrosporiosis.

Copper sulfate (4-5%) is used against fungal diseases, Barrier or Hom preparations are used, and potassium fertilizers can also be effective in the fight against diseases.

Harmful insects love to infest delicious tomatoes, including aphids, mole crickets, and whiteflies. Insecticides can help control these pests.

Vater Rhein growing regions

This semi-determinate German tomato variety is grown indoors in central Russia. The variety is frost-sensitive, so in the western, northwestern, and southwestern regions of the country, tomatoes are grown in greenhouses.

Reviews

Svetlana, Chelyabinsk

The taste of Vater Rain tomatoes is simply incredible. The fruits have few seeds. Three to four tomatoes ripen per cluster. The yield was average. I'll be planting tomatoes again because of their flavor.

Natalia, Moscow

The bushes aren't exactly vigorous, with few leaves and side shoots. I grew the bushes in three trunks. The fruits are uniformly shaped with an elongated tip. This variety was one of the first to ripen. This tomato variety is definitely on my list for planting next year.

Elena, Kostroma

The fruits are beautiful, and the nose isn't too elongated. The seedlings were weak, and the tomatoes had very few seeds, but the flavor was excellent, with a plump and delicious flesh.
