Characteristics and photos of the Yellow Date tomato, reviews of the variety

Tomatoes

Sun-dried tomatoes are a luxurious Italian recipe for a unique dish. To prepare this dish, you'll need: spicy spices, olive oil, and, of course, small, juicy tomatoes. This dish can be eaten on its own, but it can also be added to salads or used to make sauces. This dish is a favorite in Italy, Greece, and Spain. It has recently become very popular in Russia as well. Small varieties of tomatoes, such as "Finik Zhelty" (Yellow Date), are excellent for drying.

Characteristics and description of the variety

The Yellow Date tomato is a semi-determinate, medium-sized, small-fruited tomato. It is a late hybrid tomato, a versatile variety suitable for both greenhouse and open-air growing. It can also be grown indoors in large pots. Plant heights range from 90 cm to an impressive 150 cm.

This variety is a garden gem. It resembles a tree with small tangerines or yellow dates. Children love the look of these tiny tomatoes. They're excellent for baby food.

The yellow date tomato is considered a late-ripening variety. This tomato is planted in the ground only in early June, when the soil has warmed up slightly. The first fruits appear in early July, approximately 120-130 days after harvest. The yellow date tomato is resistant to short-term frosts. However, when tomatoes grow during warmer months, their yield is much higher.

This variety thrives in all areas, but it is best to avoid growing it in northern regions.

Tomato clusters contain 7-9 fruits, but there are so many tomatoes that the leaves are almost invisible.

This variety is ideal for decorating various dishes, preparing fresh salads, sun-dried tomatoes and thousands of other items.

Due to the large number of fruits, it really needs to have its stem supported.

Description of fruits

Finik Zhelty (Yellow Date) tomatoes have a smooth, oblong shape. When ripe, they turn a rich yellow. Despite their small size, the flesh is very plump and sweet. Each fruit weighs approximately 20 g.

The skin of these tomatoes is firm and doesn't crack. Its density makes them easy to transport.

These tomatoes are well suited for long-term storage and can retain their marketable appearance for several months. They are also ideal for use in baby food.

Growing

Every type of vegetable or fruit has its own cultivation technology, and the yellow date palm is no exception.

The standard procedure for preparing seedlings is the proper preparation of seeds, their disinfection and feeding with nutrient mixtures.

Seeds are disinfected using a weak solution of potassium permanganate. The seeds are soaked in this solution for 20-25 minutes. Afterwards, to promote better seedling growth, the seeds should be fed with a nutrient mixture after soaking them in the solution of your choice.

Interesting! There are many gardening mixtures for seed nutrition available in stores. But you can also make your own, for example, from aloe or potato juice.

While your seeds are disinfecting and nourishing, you can prepare the soil for the seedlings. To ensure proper germination and subsequent growth of the seedlings, mix the soil with diluted mullein, and perhaps add a little wood ash. Then, make holes 1.5-2 cm deep in the prepared soil and sift the seeds.

To prepare seedlings for transplanting outdoors, they need to be hardened off. For 14 days before transplanting, the seedlings should be exposed to fresh air for 20-25 minutes daily.

Planting in open ground occurs 65 days after sowing the seeds, around the beginning of June. A minimum distance of 70 cm between plants is ideal for this variety.

Care

Although this variety is considered small-fruited, due to the large number of fruits and the tall growth of the bush, it requires special care.

One of the most important aspects of caring for these tomatoes is staking them. Supports such as vertical poles, spikes, and trellises can be used for this purpose.

This tomato variety requires good watering, weeding, and fertilizing with fertilizers and growth stimulants. This variety can be pinched back to the first cluster, but this is optional.
