Characteristics and description of the tomato "Purple Passion"

Every year, more and more interesting new varieties of tomatoes appear, growing which gardeners get real aesthetic pleasure from their decorative qualities.

One such variety is "Purple Passion," which will undoubtedly become a decoration not only for a festive table, but also for any garden plot.

Characteristics of the variety

The "Purple Passion" tomato is an exotic black-fruited variety. It is grown primarily in greenhouses, and in warm southern climates, also in the open ground. It is a medium-sized tomato, reaching up to 1.2 meters in height, with a mid-season ripening period; it is an indeterminate variety. In a greenhouse, plant no more than two plants per square meter of area so that when the bush is formed into two or three stems, the tomatoes can grow freely without shading each other. The bushes resemble potato tops, lush and richly green. The fruits are flattened and large, weighing up to 300-400 grams. When ripe, they acquire a dark pink color with a beautiful purple hue. Delicious, juicy, and very sweet, they are ideal for eating fresh.
They are known for their good yield, up to 5 kg per bush. If you train the plant into a single stem, removing all side shoots and increasing the number of ovaries, you can get even larger fruits.
The only drawback of the Purple Passion tomato is that the fruits may crack if the soil is over-watered.

Planting seedlings

Since yield depends not only on proper care but also on high-quality seeds, it is recommended to purchase seed from reputable agricultural companies and trusted manufacturers. Growing tomato seedlings begins with sowing seeds. In central and southern Russia, the "Purple Passion" variety is sown for seedlings from March 1st to 20th. The soil for planting should be fertile and loose. Before use, it is watered with boiling water with added manganese or calcined. This is one of the methods for disinfecting the soil from diseases and pests. The same approach is used with seeds. Some companies sell seeds that require no additional preparation and are already treated. If in doubt, soak the seeds for 20 minutes in a concentrated manganese solution, rinse and dry, and treat with the growth stimulant "Epin" or "Immunocytophyte." You can also soak the seeds in a damp cloth to speed up germination.
After sowing, shade the containers until germination, cover them with glass or film, and maintain a temperature of 24-27°C. Once seedlings emerge, lower the temperature to 18-20°C, increase the lighting, remove the glass, and water with warm, settled water. After two true leaves appear, transplant the seedlings.
After the seedlings reach 55-60 days of age, they are planted in a greenhouse.

Features of cultivation and care of the variety

The "Purple Passion" tomato, like most other varieties, requires regular pinching to remove secondary shoots. Without pinching, most of the plant's nutrients are expended on the development of the foliage, and fruit formation and ripening are delayed. Side shoots are removed with regular scissors, disinfected in a manganese solution, to prevent infection. A small 1-cm stump should be left at the cut site to prevent new shoots from developing in that area.
It's important to regularly check tomato plantings for pests and diseased leaves. Fruit and foliage should not touch the soil, as this can cause rot, which will eventually lead to the death of the plant. Stake fruit stems promptly and harvest ripe tomatoes. Unripe tomatoes can be stored in a dry, warm room to ripen.

Resistance to diseases and adverse conditions

The "Purple Passion" variety, grown in greenhouses, is susceptible to disease only if proper care is not taken. Late blight spores spread very quickly in these conditions. Therefore, good lighting, fertilizing, and regular watering with warm water will ensure that no diseases develop.
The "Purple Passion" tomato is easy to grow. Moderate watering and timely fertilizing allow for a generous harvest of delicious, exotically colored fruits.
