The Sensei tomato is a wonderful variety for those who love large, sweet, and fleshy tomatoes. It's one of the early varieties, producing a bountiful harvest. The bush is small, determinate, and standard.
When grown in a greenhouse, it can reach one and a half meters in height; in open areas, it is more miniature.
The leaves are regular, dark green, and small. Tomatoes ripen in clusters of approximately three to five. They bear fruit until the first frost; the last fruits are picked green and ripen at room temperature. The impressively sized fruits can weigh up to 400 grams. They are round to heart-shaped, with a ribbed surface near the stalk. When ripe, they are raspberry-red. The flesh is sweet, uniform, and tender. The taste is sweet and refreshing.
Important!
For the best harvest, properly train the bushes with 1-2 stems. Be sure to tie up the bushes of this variety, otherwise the stems may simply break under the impressive weight of the fruit.
Growing recommendations
This tomato variety is grown using seedlings. Prepared seeds are planted in a container with soil at a depth of approximately two centimeters. This is typically done from March to early April. The recommended temperature for germination is 23-25 degrees Celsius. Water only with settled, warm water using a spray bottle or a watering can with small holes.
You can transplant the seedlings into open ground approximately two months after the sprouts emerge. Before planting, dig the soil thoroughly and remove weeds. Then, prepare deep holes and add fertilizer, followed by the seedlings. To obtain a bountiful harvest, plant 3-4 plants per square meter. This variety responds well to fertilizers enriched with a mineral complex. During ripening, it is recommended to fertilize the tomatoes with cow manure or bird droppings.
Diseases and pests
'Sensei' is resistant to many diseases. For preventative purposes against fusarium and late blight, the following is recommended:
- Tear off the lower leaves once a week;
- Remove weeds and loosen the soil;
- Ventilate the greenhouse;
- Treat with phytosporin;
Spraying with herbal infusions and insecticides will help get rid of pests, and a soap solution works great against aphids. Sprinkling the soil with hot pepper and treating it with ammonia will deter slugs from approaching the plants.
Where to grow?
"Sensei" can be grown in various regions of the country, both in greenhouses and open ground. This variety produces a stable yield, which can be increased with intensive care. The fruits are transportable and have a relatively long shelf life. This variety ripens in 100 to 105 days.
Pros and cons of this variety
There are no disadvantages, except that in order to grow them, you need to feed the tomatoes with high-quality fertilizers, water them on time, and support them.
The first of the advantages is resistance to diseases, high yield and excellent taste.
Purpose
Sensei tomatoes produce a rich, thick juice, making them suitable for both baby and dietary nutrition. These tomatoes make an excellent salad, and can also be used to make sauces, purees, soups, or hot dishes.
Reviews:
Elena, Krasnodar region
We've been planting this variety for several years now. The tomatoes are large, attractive, and sweet. The first harvest was larger, but subsequent ones were smaller. We planted them in open ground without any plastic. I canned them for the winter in slices, and the tomatoes hold their shape beautifully.
Natalia, Ufa
I grew it outdoors, and the yield was average. The taste was excellent; even the kids enjoyed it.
