The mid-early "Torbay" variety is considered a novelty among vegetable growers. This hybrid was developed by Dutch breeders in 2010. It was only registered in the Russian Federation in 2012, but has already gained popularity among pink tomato lovers.
The Torbey variety is suitable for growing outdoors and in a greenhouse.
Characteristic
The main distinguishing feature of the "Torbey" tomato is its rich pink color. It's a mid-early variety, ripening in approximately 110 days from planting to harvest. When grown in a greenhouse, fruiting can last for a long time. In warm climates, harvesting can continue until the end of September.
This is a determinate variety. The height of the bush depends directly on environmental conditions. In open ground, the plant grows to 75–80 cm. In a greenhouse, the "Torbey" bush can reach 1.5–2 m.
The bush grows strong and spreading. The branches are densely covered with leaves. The bush's structure can be controlled by leaving or removing side shoots. When growing tomatoes outdoors, the dense foliage protects the fruit from direct sunlight, which is very harmful to pink tomatoes. However, in a greenhouse, excess foliage can delay ripening.
This variety is a hybrid—it was artificially bred by breeders. Therefore, the plants are immune to common tomato diseases.
Description of fruits
Torbey tomatoes are distinguished by their beautiful pinkish color. Ripe tomatoes are slightly flattened and spherical. They weigh 170–250 grams. The flesh is sweet and contains a small number of seeds. The skin is shiny, dense, and firm. It does not crack during transportation or pickling.
Care Features
In southern and central Russia, it's acceptable to plant tomatoes in open soil, covering them with plastic at night. In northern regions, plants must be placed in a greenhouse.
Like most tomatoes, 'Torbay' is planted in the garden as seedlings. The seeds are sown 40-50 days before transplanting into the garden. To ensure proper development, the tomato seeds are buried 1.5-2 cm deep in the soil. Spray the soil from above and cover the pot with plastic wrap until the seedlings emerge. Ten days before transplanting, harden the plants by placing the pots on the balcony for 1-2 hours. Gradually increase the time spent outdoors. The optimal temperature for tomato growth is 20 degrees Celsius.
It is recommended to plant seedlings according to a 60x35 cm pattern. No more than 4 bushes are placed per 1 square meter.
Tomato plants are trained with 1-2 stems. The more branches left, the longer the fruiting period. This is adjusted based on the growing conditions.
Tomatoes require regular watering and loosening of the soil. They also require regular fertilization with organic fertilizer.
Productivity
The number of fruits per bush depends on care, soil, and growing conditions. On average, one plant can yield 4-6 kg of tomatoes. This means that 1 square meter of soil yields 16-24 kg.
Use of fruits
Thanks to their excellent marketability, Torbey tomatoes are grown not only by gardeners but also by farmers. The fruits have a sweet and sour flavor, making them ideal for fresh salads and appetizers. Smaller tomatoes are used whole for canning in jars or barrels. They are also used to make juice, tomato paste, and various sauces. The flavor of all prepared products is rich and pleasant.
Diseases and pests
Tomatoes are resistant to common diseases such as root and blossom-end rot. They are also resistant to verticillium wilt and fusarium. Despite the variety's immunity to diseases, preventative measures should be taken. These are especially important during epidemics.
The only disease that plants sometimes suffer from is blackleg. Both seedlings and mature plants can become infected. This disease is incurable, so the bush will have to be removed and burned. The growing area should be treated with fungicides.
When pests are detected, use targeted products that can be purchased in the store.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Taking into account all the objective pros and cons of a variety, it is easier for a gardener to decide whether these tomatoes are suitable for him.

I grow this hybrid in a greenhouse, removing all the side shoots and leaving one branch. Each plant produces numerous ovaries, but I keep no more than 30 to ensure they have time to ripen. The tomatoes taste good, and the plants haven't had any problems.

I liked Torbay so much that it's the only pink tomato I've kept. It grows well in a greenhouse, but the bush gets tall, about 2 meters. I grow the seedlings myself from store-bought seeds. I manage to harvest 2-3 crops per season. The tomatoes have a pleasant, sweet flavor—I use them in salads and for preserves.

I didn't really like the tomato. I neglected to fertilize it, and the tomatoes grew small. The flavor was bland, and the fruit was dense. My wife pickled a few jars.
