Characteristics and description of the tomato "Tretyakovsky"

Tomatoes

The "Tretyakovsky" variety is a new-generation hybrid. It was registered in Russia in 2000. Developed by domestic breeders, it is distinguished by its vigor, hardiness, and excellent yield.

Tomatoes are immune to most diseases and produce well even in unfavorable conditions. Ripe tomatoes have a beautiful, even shape, a crimson color, and a pleasant flavor.

Characteristics and description

This hybrid tomato variety is a mid-early variety. It takes approximately 110 days from planting the seeds to the first ripe fruits.

The bushes grow compact and have medium foliage. Each cluster produces 6-9 fruits. The bushes are beautiful and decorative in appearance.

In southern regions, tomatoes can be grown outdoors. In central Russia, plants are grown exclusively in greenhouses. Bush height varies depending on growing conditions and ranges from 120 to 180 cm.

Description of fruits

Ripe tomatoes have a rich crimson color. The round fruits weigh 90–140 grams. The flesh is sweet and juicy, with a pleasant flavor. The tomatoes are firm, with a strong skin that stores well and prevents cracking during transportation.

Features of cultivation and care

Tomatoes are most often planted in the garden as seedlings. This period requires particular attention. It's best to use store-bought soil, or mix garden soil with sand and disinfect it by baking it in the oven. Growth is relatively slow in the first 2-3 weeks. During this time, the plant's root system is actively developing. Watering should be moderate, and fertilizing should be done once before the first true leaf appears. It's important to ensure the seedlings don't overgrow.

Light is essential for growing Tretyakovsky seedlings. If sunlight is insufficient, a grow light should be used. Harden off the seedlings 10-15 days before transplanting them to the garden by placing them on the balcony. During the first few days, the plants should spend 1-2 hours outdoors, gradually increasing this time.

Transplanting to a permanent location takes place in May. The soil temperature should be at least 14 degrees Celsius. The optimal planting density is 3 plants per square meter.

The plant is trained with 1-3 stems. Best results are achieved by leaving two main branches. To limit stem growth, pinching is recommended. Regular side shoots are also removed. During the active growth stage, special attention is paid to watering and fertilizing with potassium and phosphorus.

Important! The bushes need to be supported. Supports are placed under the branches with fruit to prevent them from breaking.

Water tomatoes with warm water at the roots, avoiding contact with leaves and branches. It's important to prevent a greenhouse effect. To achieve this, ventilate the greenhouse regularly during the day.

Productivity

The Tretyakovsky variety is known for its high yield. Each bush produces an average of 5 kg of fruit. This means that 14–16 kg of tomatoes can be harvested from 1 square meter of soil. The highest yields are achieved by gardeners in the southern regions of Russia—in the Donetsk, Belgorod, and Voronezh regions.

Usage

These attractive, small tomatoes are perfect for pickling whole. Their pleasant flavor also makes them suitable for eating fresh. Tretyakovsky tomatoes are used to make juice, paste, and sauces. All preserves are delicious and healthy, thanks to the fruit's high sugar and vitamin content.

Interesting! Tomatoes of the Tretyakovsky variety contain large amounts of carotene, selenium and antioxidants.

Diseases and pests

Thanks to their strong immune system, plants are virtually immune to fungal diseases. To maintain healthy bushes, it's important to maintain a proper watering, lighting, fertilizing, and ventilation schedule.

When growing the "Tretyakovsky" tomato outdoors, some gardeners encounter the Colorado potato beetle (especially if potatoes are grown nearby). Commercially available chemicals are the most effective way to control it.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Advantages:

  •         The variety is shade-tolerant;
  •         High yield;
  •         Excellent taste;
  •         Resistance to most tomato diseases and pests;

Flaws:

The "Tretyakovsky" variety delighted me with a bountiful harvest. I grew it for the first time in 2017. The tomatoes grew beautifully and juically. We ate most of the harvest straight from the garden and in salads. Next year, I plan to plant more tomatoes and use some for pickling.

I bought seedlings at the market. The bushes grew tall and unsightly. But the tomatoes themselves are delicious and even, just like in a picture. Next year, I'll grow the seedlings myself to form compact bushes from an early age. I'll also pay more attention to pinching and side-sonning—this variety grows very quickly.

I bought seeds on a friend's recommendation. About half the packet sprouted. The seedlings grew strong and vigorous. I transplanted them into the ground (greenhouse) at the end of May. The harvest was good. Care was straightforward—I watered and fertilized as usual. The bushes were disease-free, and I didn't see any pests. I was pleased that after harvesting, many of the tomatoes were stored in the refrigerator without any problems. I recommend this wonderful variety to everyone!
