Characteristics and description of the tomato "Yellow Truffle"

Tomatoes

One of the most delicious varieties of the "Japanese Truffle" tomato series is considered the "Yellow Truffle." Like many yellow tomatoes, they are sweeter than their pink and red counterparts.

Besides all this, the yellow color of vegetables can decorate any dish and also looks great in a jar.

This indeterminant variety has excellent transportability and shelf life. This is due to the thick-skinned fruit. The bush reaches 1.2-1.5 m in height, forming two stems. It requires staking and removal of side shoots.

General characteristics

"Yellow Truffle" is a mid-season variety. It takes 110-120 days from germination to fruiting. It can be grown both in a greenhouse and in garden beds. The tomatoes have a slightly ribbed surface and a pear-shaped form, somewhat reminiscent of a truffle. The flavor of this variety's fruits is sweet, and the flesh is meaty and dense. The tomatoes are orange-yellow in color and weigh approximately 100-150 g. They are suitable for fresh salads and are also good for whole pickling.

Its main distinguishing feature is its excellent fruit set. It performs best when grown in a greenhouse. This is because it can grow up to 3 meters. A single cluster can produce 6-7 tomatoes.

Interesting! Many breeders have developed a dwarf variety of this tomato. In open beds, this plant grows no more than 70 cm.

Growing seedlings

You can sow tomatoes for seedlings as early as March. If you plan to plant them in a heated greenhouse, you can do so in April. If the greenhouse is unheated, don't plant the seedlings until May. For outdoor garden beds, check the weather forecast. Plants should be transplanted into the garden beds after all possible frosts have passed. This usually happens by the end of May. By this time, the plants should be 60-65 days old.

Low-growing varieties should be planted at 2-4 bushes per square meter, while taller varieties should be planted at 5-6. Taller varieties are often formed into two stems. In this case, the second stem is obtained from a side shoot under the first cluster. The remaining side shoots are removed, as are the lower five leaves. Bush growth should be limited to 6-7 clusters. Tall stems require staking and vertical support.

Caution: This variety should be watered exclusively with warm water.

Advantages:

  • the fruits are suitable for special nutrition;
  • can be used by people with allergic reactions;
  • contains a large amount of vitamins and antioxidants;
  • the variety is resistant to fungal diseases;
  • tolerates any weather conditions perfectly.

How to care for the Yellow Truffle in open beds

Tomatoes are a very low-maintenance plant, yet they respond well to any care. Therefore, the care you give them will be rewarded with a bountiful harvest.

It's important not to overdo it with care. After all, tomatoes don't like too much moisture, too much fertilizer, or drought. You need to determine the optimal amount of each treatment you'll perform in your garden beds.

First of all, you need to determine the necessary care for the plants.

This:

  • optimal watering;
  • timely feeding;
  • loosening the soil and removing weeds from plants;
  • garter and pinching out side shoots;
  • hilling;
  • protection from pests and diseases.

How to water tomatoes properly

After planting, the only thing you need to do is provide timely and proper care. Watering is crucial. The secret to proper watering is keeping the soil moderately moist. Water the plant as the soil dries out, but avoid allowing it to dry out completely, as this can kill the plant.

The most optimal watering is considered to be about once a week.

Important! The best way to water tomatoes is with a drip irrigation system.

Plant fertilizing

The minimum number of fertilizing sessions is about three, but the optimal option is to fertilize plants once every two weeks. For this purpose, you can use fertilizers that contain high levels of phosphorus and potassium, and a small amount of nitrogen.

You can use the following:

  • 10 liters of water;
  • 30-40 g of potassium chloride;
  • 15 g of saltpeter;
  • 50-60 g of superphosphate.

You can also use a solution of bird droppings, and during flowering - boron.

How to tie up tomato bushes

You should begin after transplanting the plant into the garden bed. To do this, drive a stake into the soil on the north side, 10 cm away from the stem. The stakes shouldn't be too small, about 1.5 meters high.

You can also use a trellis with wire stretched across it for this purpose.

Weeding and hilling

The standard procedure for hilling bushes is performed approximately 2-3 times during the active growth period. Weed control is performed more frequently. It's important to prevent weeds from growing too large.

Tip! It's convenient to simultaneously weed, hill, and loosen the soil. This will save you a significant amount of time.

I grew Yellow Truffles in a greenhouse, and the bushes grew to about 1.5 meters. Overall, I liked the variety; the yield was good and they lasted a long time. However, I didn't like them fresh; the skin was too thick, in my opinion. They were excellent pickled, however—they didn't crack and they look beautiful in the jar. Next year, I'll try planting them in a garden bed.

I bought a packet of seeds after reading a lot of positive reviews. I grew the seedlings and then transplanted them to an open bed. I tied them to a trellis and removed any excess side shoots. I later used these to form new plants. The tomatoes grew in abundance. I made a large quantity of winter preserves (whole pickled tomatoes in a jar). I liked the variety.

I bought ready-made seedlings and planted them in a heated greenhouse under plastic. I planted them early, in mid-April. They were delighted with an early, abundant harvest. I treated them for diseases. The taste was good.

  1. I bought truffle seeds, they sprouted quickly! I planted the seedlings! And that's it! The pomedos have died! They've been stuck in the same spot for two months! I've watered them with everything! The stem and about five leaves! What should I water them with? How can I get them to grow faster?
