Characteristics and description of the tomato "Hospitable"

Tomatoes

The Khlebosolny tomato was developed by Siberian breeders. Its ease of cultivation, large fruit, and excellent flavor will please everyone. The variety was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements in 2006 by individual entrepreneur V.N. Dederko.

Genuine seeds are sold by the companies "Siberian Garden" and "Ural Summer Resident".

Characteristics and description of the variety

The bushes are determinate, meaning their growth is limited. They have dark green, medium-sized leaves.

The fruits themselves are large and have excellent flavor. They contain four or more seed chambers. Almost all fruits (98%) are marketable.

Productivity

The yield is high. An open plot can yield 3.8-8.3 kg of fruit per square meter.

Feedback from those who planted

Natalia, Moscow

I really liked the taste of the fruits; they were sweet, sugary, and aromatic. I made salads with sour cream from some of the tomatoes, and froze the rest to make borscht for winter.

Tatyana, Kemerovo

I thought the fruits were too soft, there were a few gnarled tomatoes, but I really liked the taste.

Galina, Krasnoyarsk

Although the variety is listed in the State Register as mid-season, I would classify it as early. It was the first one to ripen for me. The tomatoes are large, fleshy, juicy, sweet, and not acidic.

Height, plant weight, color, shape

Although the bushes are determinate, they grow to a height of 0.8-1 m. The tomatoes are flat-rounded, with barely visible ribs, they are scarlet, very fleshy, and sweet. Each tomato weighs 116-200 g, but tomatoes weighing up to 400 g can be harvested. The flesh is very tender. An unripe tomato is green and has a characteristic spot near the stem.

Features of growing and caring for the variety

Important! Tomatoes require warmth, sun and moisture to produce a good harvest.

After purchasing a package of seeds, test their germination by placing them in a glass of salted water for 15 minutes (add 1 teaspoon of salt to 1 glass of water). You'll see some seeds float to the surface of the water; these are bad seeds; discard them. Keep the seeds that sink to the bottom. Rinse and dry them. Next, you can soak the seeds in a cloth for a few days until they sprout. Sow them in containers with light soil, covering them with a 1.5-2 cm layer of soil. Moisten the soil thoroughly, cover the container with glass, and place it in the warmest spot in your home, typically between 22-25°C.

When the sprouts appear, harden them by placing the containers in a cool place with an air temperature of +15°C for a week.

Then place the containers back in a warm room, maintaining a temperature of 20-22°C. When the seedlings develop 1-2 true leaves, transplant them into individual peat pots. After 60 days, transplant them into the garden.

Attention! Good seedlings should have 6-8 leaves.

Important! Tomato plants prefer light, fertile soil, which can be amended with sand and humus. In the fall, dig the soil over. If the soil is acidic, first sprinkle 100 g of dolomite flour per square meter, then dig over the soil.

In the spring, dig the soil again with a pitchfork and level it. Dig holes 30 cm apart, and leave 50 cm between rows.

To ensure good growth, plants are planted at an angle, perhaps even slightly deeper to encourage good root development, and then earthed up. Bushes are tied to supports. Care involves pruning, weeding, watering, loosening the soil, and fertilizing.

Since this is not a hybrid, you can collect the seeds yourself, however, you need to remember that before sowing, such seeds are placed in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

Select the largest, most perfect fruit and mark it somehow. When it's ripe, pick it and place it on a windowsill for two weeks. Next, remove the seeds, wash them, and dry them.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The Khlebosolnye tomato variety has many advantages:

  1. They are easy to care for and can be grown by both professional vegetable growers and beginners.
  2. The bushes tolerate temperature fluctuations quite well, although during recurrent frosts in the spring, it is recommended to cover the bed with film; they are immune to diseases.
  3. Tomatoes have excellent taste, juicy, fleshy, sweet.
  4. Almost all fruits have excellent marketable appearance.
  5. The yield is high.

Flaw:

  1. The fruits do not store for long, maximum 2 weeks, they have soft skin.
  2. Ripening speed.
  3. This variety is considered mid-season. Tomatoes begin to be harvested at 120 days.

The main purpose of the variety

The Khlebosolny variety is perfect for salads due to its superb flavor. These tomatoes are added to dietary dishes and baby food. They are also used for juice extraction, pastes, and ketchup. However, they are not canned because the large fruits do not fit through the neck of a jar.

In which regions is it grown?

In the southern and central regions of Russia, tomatoes are grown in open fields. In the northern regions, it is recommended to plant tomatoes in greenhouses or hotbeds made of film, glass, or polycarbonate.

Attention! It is not recommended to plant this variety in closed, heated greenhouses, as this can cause intensive growth of stems and leaves and a lack of buds.

Resistance to diseases and adverse conditions

Like other varieties bred by Siberian breeders, these tomatoes easily adapt to adverse conditions. The bushes easily tolerate drought, heat, sudden temperature changes, and cold temperatures. Even with extreme temperature fluctuations and a lack of sunlight, the bushes produce excellent fruit.

Tomatoes are rarely susceptible to diseases, fungi, and viruses. The variety is immune to fusarium wilt, brown leaf spot, and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV).

Timing of planting seedlings

If you plan to plant seedlings outdoors, sow the seeds 60 days in advance – in early April. If you want to plant seedlings in a greenhouse, you can sow the seeds as early as February.

If planted too early, the plants will not receive enough sunlight and warmth, so they will only begin to produce fruit by the end of July.

If you sow seeds in your garden at the end of May, you'll be able to harvest as early as early August. This is because plant growth times depend on weather conditions.

The Khlebosolny tomato is an excellent variety that adapts well to various weather conditions and is resistant to the main tomato diseases.
