Choosing just one tomato variety can be difficult. It's important to select seeds that will thrive in your climate. It's no secret that there are many plants suited to specific regions.
Although Nelson's Golden Giant grows well in any conditions, it is still recommended to grow it in a greenhouse.
Characteristics and description
The Nelson's Golden Giant variety is a mid-season, tall (indeterminate) variety. The bush reaches two meters in height, which is why it absolutely must be tied to a support to prevent the stems and clusters from breaking. Like all other indeterminate varieties, this variety requires pinching and shaping. This ensures the plant's comfort and health, which means a bountiful harvest.
The fruits are slightly flattened and round. They have a uniform orange color. Inside, they are small-lobed, contain few seeds, and are very juicy and fleshy. A single tomato can weigh up to 600 grams, but the average does not exceed 450 grams.
If proper agricultural practices are followed, a single bush can yield over 5 kilograms. The average yield is up to 12 kg per square meter.
Advantages and disadvantages
Indeterminate varieties take a very long time to grow and therefore bear fruit much longer than determinate varieties. Furthermore, the Nelson's Golden Giant variety offers the following advantages:
- the harvest often lasts until mid-September;
- Average yield. One bush produces about 5 kilograms of tomatoes;
- Nelson's Golden Giant has high resistance to various diseases;
- the fruits ripen at the same time;
- has high taste qualities.
Of course, this type of tomato has plenty of advantages, but it also has disadvantages:
- the cost per package is increasing every day;
- the presence of certain conditions that relate to disembarkation.
- The plant needs to be shaped to grow properly.
- difficulty of care.

Features of cultivation
Be sure to buy genuine seeds. They don't require pre-sowing treatment and, importantly, germinate very quickly. Proper care is crucial.
Let's start with purchasing soil for germination. You can make it yourself, but you'll need to start in the fall. Store-bought soil saves you a lot of time.
Seeds should be planted in pots (if you don't have any, use boxes or containers). The depth should be about two centimeters. Ensure the room is warm (up to 24 degrees Celsius).
When the first green leaves appear, the plant should be pricked out to allow the root system to strengthen and develop a fibrous appearance. Pricking out also helps even out the seedlings' height.
Immediately after picking, lower the ambient temperature to room temperature (18-20 degrees).
Two weeks before planting, begin to gradually lower the temperature (this only applies to planting in the ground).
Experienced gardeners recommend watering tomatoes with water and a complex fertilizer. Add 20 grams per 10 liters of water.
Landing
Before planting the seedlings, dig holes in advance and add 2 teaspoons of ash to each. When planting the seedlings, make sure they reach the first true leaf and are slightly tilted.
Caring for Nelson's Golden Giant
If you notice that your tomato plant isn't stopping growing, pinch off the shoot. This will stop the growth yourself.
Once the tomato plant reaches the growing season, apply a complex fertilizer every two days. Chicken manure can also be used.
As soon as the seedlings are planted in the ground, they need regular watering. Don't overwater the plants, but mist the soil daily, frequently, and lightly. Important! The water temperature should be no more than 18 degrees Celsius.
For optimal growth, it's best to stagger the "Golden Giant Nelson" bushes. This will give you three bushes per square meter, which is also ideal for adequate nutrition.
Disease resistance
Nelson's Golden Giant developed specially designed for growing in greenhouse conditions, therefore it is immune to most types of diseases. But the only common problem with tall plants is aphids. To get rid of them, you don't need expensive products; simply make a soapy solution and spray the leaves. Laundry soap is best.
To prevent any nightshade pests, plant 1-3 mustard stalks between each bush. If you don't want to bother with additional planting, you can dilute mustard powder with water and water the plants with this solution.

I grow this variety regularly. It's easy to care for, and the yield is large. The tomatoes are ideal for both canning and eating. It's important to watch for aphids. They appear very frequently, but they disappear just as quickly.

I learned about this variety back in university. But at the time, it seemed really scary and complicated to me. I struggled a bit, gained some experience, and decided to try growing it. But I didn't expect it to be so easy.
In general, to everyone who is afraid, my little advice: try it, it’s not as scary as you think.
