Verbena is a herbaceous ornamental perennial. It's one of the most low-maintenance plants, making it easy for a novice gardener to decorate their garden with. A distinct advantage of verbena is its long flowering period. Timely removal of faded flowers and buds will allow you to enjoy its beauty until the first frost.
There are four varieties of verbena:
— Hybrid—a small plant up to 50 cm tall with five-pointed flowers and rounded leaves. The leaves are covered with small, soft hairs on top. It delights with its variety of colors;
- Canadian - no more than 20 cm in height. The leaves are carved, the flowers are white, purple, pink;
- hard - a bush with serrated leaves, flowers collected in small inflorescences of various shades - from blue to red;
— Buenos Aires is a tall plant, sometimes over 100 cm. The leaves are elongated, the flowers range from pink to lilac shades.

The first shoots appear in about two weeks. They are transplanted into the garden when there is no longer a risk of spring frost.
Verbena can be planted anywhere in the garden, as it's undemanding about light conditions. Even pots and planters are suitable for its growth, thanks to its compact root system. The soil should be fertile, yet light and well-drained. Achieving such a mixture is easy: just mix soil and sand.
A good drainage layer of broken brick or expanded clay is essential. This will prevent excess moisture from stagnating and protect the plant from root rot.
Verbena seeds don't require any special preparation before planting. However, there are a few important points to keep in mind. Seedlings should be transplanted outdoors once warm weather has settled in. Although verbena can withstand light frosts down to -3°C, OS, it's still not worth the risk. Don't cover the seeds with too much soil. Simply scattering them over the entire surface will suffice. They should germinate in a cool room. Avoid creating a greenhouse effect. Water moderately, avoiding overwatering. If all conditions are met, the first sprouts will appear within 10-15 days.
