Cherries

chereshnya-fatezh-depisaniye-sorta-foto-otzyvyThe Fatezh cherry has become especially popular among gardeners in our country due to its winter hardiness. However, this isn't the only advantage of the Fatezh cherry, as can be found in the variety's description and in gardener reviews (photo).

Description and characteristics of the variety

The Fatezh cherry was developed at the A.I. Evstratov All-Russian Selection and Technology Institute of Horticulture and Nursery. This unique variety was developed by sowing seeds from open pollination of the Leningradskaya Zheltaya variety. The variety was officially registered in 2001, making it a relatively new cherry variety.

The cherry tree of this variety grows small—between 3 and 5 meters—with a medium-dense, spherical crown, making it a beautiful addition to any garden. The branches are spreading, extending from the trunk at right angles. The leaves are smooth, wide, dark green, and glossy. Fine serrations can be seen on the leaflet edges. During flowering, the plant's buds are white and have a distinct aroma. Fruits form on branchlets and one-year-old shoots.

The Fatezh cherry is a reddish-yellow color with a distinct round shape. It has a sweet, tart flavor and can be considered a dessert fruit. Inside, the fruit contains juicy, firm flesh with a pinkish tint. The pit of this cherry variety is oval, small, and easy to remove.

The fruits of this variety contain B vitamins, as well as vitamins A, C, and P. Other beneficial substances found in the fruits of the Fatezh cherry include iron, calcium, phosphorus, and niacin.

Reviews from gardeners

Whether the description and photo of the Fatezh cherry variety correspond to the actual results can be found out from reviews from gardeners who have already planted and grown this variety in their plots.

Alina: "I have two varieties of cherry trees growing on my plot: 'Fatezh' and 'Bryanskaya Rozovaya.' The 'Fatezh' variety produced a lot of berries this year, but after the winter, I noticed gum oozing in some places and few new shoots. But I guess I was lucky, because I had a bountiful harvest."

Olga: "I like the 'Fatezh' cherry because it starts bearing fruit quickly. However, one downside is that it's very susceptible to gummosis."

Inessa: "I recommend planting 'Fatezh' for two reasons: it tolerates even harsh winters well and produces delicious berries that can be transported long distances. Of course, caring for the tree is difficult for me personally, as I encounter diseases every year, but a good harvest is worth the effort!"
