Not every gardener can devote enough time to caring for tomatoes. In this case, low-growing tomatoes that don't require pinching, grown both in greenhouses and open-ground beds, come in handy. Varieties for "lazy" growers have been developed that produce good yields despite their short stature, while being easy to care for and disease-resistant.
Features of dwarf varieties
"Baby" tomatoes are popular with many gardeners. They are prized for their easy care, resistance to adverse weather conditions, and high yields. In Russia's harsh climate, growing tall indeterminate varieties, which require proper cultivation techniques, is not easy. Dwarf varieties are compact, produce a variety of colors and fruit sizes, and grow well both indoors (greenhouses, tunnels) and outdoors.
There are three groups of such tomatoes:
- standard;
- determinant;
- superdeterminant.
In the first group, the side shoots are not removed, but in the second and third, side shoots are possible and are determined by the desire and availability of time of the gardener.

This tomato will delight you with its early harvest and a decent yield for such a "small" variety. The plant has a strong, sturdy stem and reaches a height of approximately 45-50 cm. The leaves are rich green and slightly corrugated. The bush does not require pinching.
The clusters contain 5-6 uniform red fruits. Some tomatoes have a slight yellowing near the stem. The tomatoes are plum-shaped and have thin skin. They weigh between 70 and 100 grams. The flesh is firm and sweet, with a pleasant flavor and a distinct aroma.
Its use is universal, as Aquarelle fruits are suitable for fresh eating, marinating, and pickling. The first fruits at the technical ripeness stage are harvested after approximately 100 days, and they take another couple of weeks to ripen on the bush. This variety is easy to care for and grows in any soil, but with timely fertilizing and watering, yields will be higher.
Red Fang
This variety has elongated, slightly concave fruits, suitable for canning. The bush is short, medium-sized, and compact. Five to six bushes are planted per square meter.
The fruits are firm, with sweet flesh and a pleasant flavor. They average 80-100 grams in weight and are bright red with a glossy finish. This variety is suitable for pickling and canning, and is attractive in jars for assorted varieties (cucumbers, squash). A properly cared-for bush can yield up to 5-7 kg of fruit. No side shoots are needed.
Krakowiak F1
This is an ultra-early tomato variety with a standard, low-growing bush. The plant grows up to 50 cm tall and has few leaves. No side shoots or staking are required.
The inflorescences are simple, forming clusters of 4-5 tomatoes. The fruits reach technical maturity in 78-83 days and ripen well indoors. The tomatoes weigh up to 70 grams, are round, and slightly ribbed. Inside, they contain 4-5 small chambers and a few seeds. The flesh is tender and pleasantly flavorful. It has a distinctive tomato aroma. Early Krakowiak is primarily used for summer salads. A single bush produces 1.5-1.7 kg of fruit.
The tomato's originator is the Gavrish agrofirm. Since 2009, Krakowiak has been included in the State Register of the Russian Federation.

During the fruiting season, the bushes of this variety are laden with beautiful red tomatoes. It's productive and resistant to a number of tomato diseases:
- fusarium;
- blossom-end rot;
- Verticillium wilt.
The plant is resistant to late blight due to its early ripening period. Approximately 80-82 days pass from germination to the first harvest. The bushes are small, up to 40-50 cm tall, and compact.
Tomatoes are planted in open ground under temporary plastic covers. There is no need to shape or remove side shoots. The tomatoes are ovoid, firm, and a rich red color. Inside, they contain up to five chambers, and the flesh is juicy and pleasantly flavorful.
Usage:
- whole fruit canning;
- pickling;
- salads;
- cutting.
The variety is also quite productive, with an average yield of 6-7 kg of tomatoes per square meter.
Duckling
An original, rare tomato variety, distinguished by abundant fruiting and a consistent harvest. Suitable for planting in open ground beds, it requires no shaping or side shoot removal.
Tomatoes ripen quickly and uniformly, with the first fruits ready for harvest in just 80-90 days. The tomatoes are round, uniform, and bright orange. They weigh approximately 60-100 grams. The skin is thin but firm.
They are primarily used fresh and for pickling. The fruits do not crack and retain their shape and flavor well during processing. Gardeners note the excellent shelf life of these tomatoes, their undemanding soil conditions, and their resistance to disease.
