Sweet tomatoes are grown in every region of the country. In the northern regions, the vegetables are grown indoors, while in the southern and central regions, tomatoes are planted in open ground.

To ensure the fruit's sugar content and quality, it's not enough to simply choose a sweet hybrid; you also need suitable soil with nutrients and special care rules.

Tomato varieties for the central part of Russia

When planting seedlings in northern regions, weather conditions should be taken into account. Only at the end of May, when the final threat of frost has passed, can seedlings be transplanted into the garden. Select early-ripening tomato varieties with a growing season of 75-90 days or mid-season tomatoes with a ripening period of 100-115 days. Seeds are sown for seedlings from April 1-5; two months pass from sowing to transplanting the seedlings into the ground.

Tomatoes for Siberia and the Urals

Siberian summers are short, and tomatoes are grown only from seedlings. For the Siberian region and the Urals, it's best to choose early, regionalized hybrids that can withstand light frosts and temperature fluctuations without losing their quality or sweet flavor. The growing season lasts 90 days, and tomato plants are planted in mid-June. Seeds are sown after April 15.

Hybrids for the Urals

Vegetable ripening periods should not exceed 90-110 days. In short summers, tomatoes are harvested before the first frost. To prevent frost from catching tomato plants unawares, regional varieties or hybrids with early maturity and resistance to temperature fluctuations are grown. In the Urals, tomatoes are grown from seedlings, preferably in greenhouses.

Tomatoes for the northwest of the country

The Northwestern Federal District has a temperate climate, which poses a risk of yield loss. Domestic tomato breeders have developed and continue to develop new hybrids for cold climates. These varieties allow for a good harvest before the autumn frosts with minimal losses.

Sweet tomatoes for the south of the country

The long summers and warm climate make it possible to plant mid-season and late-season tomato varieties in open ground. In hotter regions, severe pruning is not recommended; however, lower leaves and the harvested cluster are removed. Seedlings are planted in the garden in early May, and seeds for seedlings are sown between March 5th and 15th.

Gardeners love to plant cherry tomato hybrids. They are sweet, early ripening, easy to store, productive, and delicious. The small fruits are versatile.

Large tomatoes for southern regions:

Abakansky Pink grows up to 2 m in length. It has a round shape and weighs 200-700 g. Three bushes are planted per square meter, yielding 4.5-5 kg of vegetables. The growing season lasts 100-120 days.
Pink Flamingo – grown under or without plastic. Bushes grow up to 1.5 m tall. Fruit ripens 115 days after planting. Up to 10 kg of tomatoes can be harvested per square meter. Fruiting continues until October. Plum-shaped, weighing 200-500 g.
Mikado Pink – vegetation period 95-110 days. The plant grows up to 2.5 meters tall, with clusters holding up to 8 tomatoes. Three plants yield 9-12 kg. The flat-round, ribbed shape produces fruits weighing up to 700 g.
The Scarlet Flower grows to 0.8-1.5 m in height. The first harvest occurs 95 days after planting. The flat-round fruits weigh 200-500 g.
Pink Andromeda is an early-ripening hybrid. Heat-resistant, low-growing bushes produce a good yield of up to 700 c/ha. Weight: 90-100 g.

Prepare the soil for tomatoes in the fall. Add compost, ash, eggshells, and manure. Tomatoes thrive on organic matter, nitrogen, and potassium, and prefer slightly alkaline soil.
